Introduction

 Course Revised

Regardless of where you live in Canada, all provinces have occupational health & safety legislation with ‘general duty’ requirements for your employer to protect your health & safety in the workplace. This includes protecting you from harassment, bullying and violence.  Most provinces, including British Columbia, have specific regulations regarding inappropriate misconduct in the workplace.  British Columbia recognizes this inappropriate misconduct as an occupational health and safety hazard.

The Workers Compensation Act defines the roles & responsibilities of employers, supervisors & workers to ensure health & safety in the workplace.  The Occupational Health & Safety Regulation set out specific requirements to ensure the health & safety of workers and those around them. The regulation also sets out requirements for working alone or in isolation.  Additionally, WorkSafeBC has issued Occupational Health & Safety policies for preventing and addressing workplace bullying and harassment.

Compliance of each workplace party to perform their specific responsibilities supports an ‘internal responsibility system’ which is required to maintain a safe work environment.  Everyone in the workplace shares a responsibility for creating and maintaining a safe workplace, including a work environment free of inappropriate misconduct.

Training is required to raise awareness about harassment, bullying & violence in the workplace. Such inappropriate misconduct can be prevented or averted if you are aware of the warning signs that may lead to ongoing or more intensified inappropriate misconduct.  You can help prevent harm to yourself and others by educating yourself on your workplace policies and knowing what to do. By knowing what behaviour is and isn’t acceptable, you can do your part in preventing bullying, harassment, and violence and help maintain a respectful workplace.

This course deals with general information such as safety regulations, how to recognize warning signs of harassment, bullying, and violence, and how to protect yourself.  WildBrain provides training that addresses specific risks & hazards of inappropriate misconduct you may encounter at work.
